Monica Casanova

Monica's Biography

As a former public library director, Monica Casanova has a keen understanding of local taxes and government funding processes. She also has advanced degrees from IUPUI in Public History and Library Science. Monica Casanova is a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and Purdue University.  Monica has experience in the social work field as the former Assistant Director of the Immigration Clinic at Lafayette Urban Ministry and as Case Manager for Valley Oaks. She is currently working on a Masters in Social Work through Indiana University Indianapolis.

She also taught English as a second language at the Learning Network in Frankfort, IN. Monica herself is an immigrant, born in Mexico, raised in southern California and Indiana. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2002 thanks to the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act signed by Ronald Reagan. 

Monica lives in Lafayette with her husband and two children. Monica has been dedicated both in her career and community activities to make the Greater Lafayette Area a welcoming place for all people to work, live, and raise a family.  She is bicultural and bilingual.

She is a board member of Food Finders Food Bank, Inc., Prosperity Indiana, Area IV Council on Aging, Tippecanoe County Historical Association, and Carey Home.

Monica is the first Latinx to be elected in Tippecanoe County. Monica is the Fairfield Township Trustee. She understands the power of representation and is committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in Tippecanoe County.
